Individuals who wish to live independently within the community in a caring and supportive group home benefit most from Windgap’s Supported Independent Living environment. The comfortable homes provide accessible, shared and private living spaces, as well as trained staff who are there 24/7 to provide individual care and assistance to complete day to day tasks.
The residential services also provide the opportunity for personal growth, to be involved socially with peers and develop independent living skills through attending additional services provided by Windgap such as our Supported Employment, Day and Community Programs.
Having Supported Independent Living funding will provide:
Essentially, Supported Independent Living (SIL) is the funding for support services, and the Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is the accommodation in which those services are delivered. SIL funding is typically for people who need 24/7 support while living in a shared home. It exists to cover the cost of the support staff in the house.
To qualify for accommodation in a supported group home you need to firstly get in contact with your Support Coordinator to apply for SIL within your NDIS plan. You may be able to request an early plan review if required.
Applying to be assessed for SIL funding through NDIS can take several months to complete. If you are planning to look for a placement within the next 6-24 months, think about starting the process now.
That’s OK. If there are no vacancies available at the time of your enquiry, one of our team members will record your details so we can contact you once a vacancy becomes available.
You can also begin applying for your SIL funding approval during this time which will assist in the application process.
